Over the past year, I’ve been traveling around the country, working with different theatre programs. I find that young actors are so much more open and available on their “home turf”, and it’s been a pleasure coming to meet them where they are, both physically and emotionally. So far in 2024 alone, I’ve visited schools and community theaters in Oregon, California, Virginia, Tennessee, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

I tend to specialize in acting a song and audition prep, usually about a 2-3 hour session, although I also have done more extensive workshops over a few days. My typical format would be about a 15-20 minute group warmup, followed by 8-12 student performers (depending on how long we have) that have prepared a song or monologue. I spend 15-20 minutes with each doing notes and working the material in a way that would benefit everyone watching. Then I close things out with a 15-20 minute Q&A (and then, inevitably, selfies with the kids).

That said, it's really just a general template. Some programs prefer cold reads or scene study, and those are both very doable. Some like to perform a couple of group numbers from a recent or upcoming show, or ask if I'd perform a song or two, all of which can be really fun. I like to tailor what I do to the needs of the students.
